Here at Camden Place Dental Practice we have invested in our very own cone beam CT (CBCT) and panoramic scanner, the Vatech PAX-i3D. With this new technology we are able to provide patients and referring dentist with the highest level of clinical care, accurate planning and placement of dental Implants.
What is a cone beam CT scanner?
Dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) is a special type of x-ray machine used in situations where regular dental x-rays are not sufficient. This type of CT scanner uses a special type of technology to create three dimensional (3-D) images of dental structures, nerve paths, soft tissues and bone in a single scan. Images obtained with cone beam CT allow for more precise treatment planning.
What is a cone beam CT scanner used for?
A cone beam CT scanner can be used for a variety of different reasons, we at Camden Place Dental Practice primarily use the cone beam CT scanner for:
- Evaluation of the jaw bone, sinuses, nerve canals and nasal cavity for accurate planning and placement of dental Implants
- Minimally invasive Guided Implant Surgery such as \’All on 4\’
- Surgical planning for impacted teeth
- Complex endodontic surgery
The CBCT scanner can also be used for:
- TMJ ( temporomandibular joint disorder) diagnosis
- Orthodontic treatment
- Perio disease
- Diagnosis of infection
What is a Panoramic X-ray?
A panoramic x-ray, is a two-dimensional (2-D) dental X-ray that captures the entire mouth in one single image, including the upper and lower teeth, jaws and the maxillary sinuses.
What a Panoramic X-Ray is used for?
A Panoramic X-Ray, like a CBCT scan can be used for:
- Planning of simple Implant cases
- Endodontic surgery
- Impacted wisdom teeth
- cavities
